GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
  1. Exhibit Building is open 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  2. The Association will pay cash premiums as enumerated in this premium list, and we desire to encourage all worthy exhibits, and shall be glad to furnish space for all desirable exhibits. The Association reserves the right to postpone or carry the fair over one to two days following the fair date on account of rainy weather and all exhibits will be held until released by the secretary and any exhibit leaving unless released by the secretary will forfeit all premiums won.
  3. Exhibitors must see to the delivery of their exhibits, to the exhibit building on the fair grounds. NO ITEMS THAT HAVE BEEN EXHIBITED AT THE SOUTHERN IOWA FAIR BEFORE WILL BE ACCEPTED IN OPEN CLASS. The Board of Directors and Superintendents will use all diligence to ensure the safety of stock and articles after their arrival but will not be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur. Exhibitors must give personal attention to the property and immediately preceding the close of the fair, take charge of the same.
  4. NO EXHIBITOR IS TO MAKE COMMENT DURING THE JUDGING. If so exhibits will be disqualified. All questions may be presented at close of judging.
  5. Persons interested directly in the premiums in any department must not act as a judge in that department. The Association will supply expert judges for each department as far as possible.
  6. Office Personal will pay premiums for Open Class exhibits, in the exhibit building on Thursday, July 28, from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the time you pick up your exhibit.
  7. Certificates of Registry must be furnished if demanded of animals exhibited.
  8. ALL PREMIUM CHECKS NOT CASHED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF THE DATE ON THE CHECK WILL BE FORFEITED TO THE FAIR ASSOCIATION AND WILL BE STAMPED TO THIS EFFECT.

SUPERINTENDENTS
Superintendents shall have full charge of their department, being responsible to the Secretary and the Fair Board. Each superintendent is expected to be on the grounds each day of the fair, to attend to the reception and arrangement of articles or animals to be exhibited in his or her division and to exercise great care in preserving and returning entry books, as soon as entry of awards are in them, and upon no other authority can warrants be drawn for premiums. No classes may be written into the entry books. In order to receive premium money, entries must have been printed in the catalogue.

RULES

  1. Entries will be received from 8:00 until 11:00 a.m. July 23 in the Exhibit Hall. These entries DO
    NOT have to be entered prior to this date. Entries must all be entered by 11:00 a.m.

  2. All exhibits must have been completed since September 1, 2004.

  3. All Exhibitors are considered as being in the grade just completed.

  4. Limit of ONE ENTRY PER ENTRY NUMBER, such as 1 a, 1 b, and 1 c, with a limit of 6
    entries overall. Child will be given a number by the Superintendent in the Exhibit Hall.

  5. Premiums: First, second and third – money, Pink Ribbon – honorable mention and a Best of Show
    in each class. A Best of Show Ribbon will be awarded at the Judges discretion.

  6. Exhibits will be released from 9:00 to 10:00a.m. Thursday, July 28. Your premium money will be with the Superintendent in the Exhibit Hall. ABSOLUTELY NO EARLY RELEASES.

RULES

  1. Entries will be accepted in the Fair Office June 13th – July 15th, with ALL entries closing at 5:00 p.m. on July 15th.

  2. Entries will be received in the Exhibit Hall Saturday, July 23rd, 8:30 – 11:30 am.

  3. All entries in the baked goods classes, except for the piece used for judging will be released and sold at a bake sale immediately following the judging of the items. All money raised at this bake sale will be returned 100% in premiums in the baked goods classes. The bake sale will start after the first class of judging is completed. (Approximately 1:30 pm) Canned items and decorated cakes WILL NOT be sold.

  4. Limit of one entry in each entry number. Identical items cannot be entered in two different classes. Entries must have been prepared since last years fair.

  5. Entry tag is to be placed on the OUTSIDE of each container. If a canned item, it MUST HAVE A GUMMED LABEL from the Fair Office AND ENTRY TAG.

  6. A Best of Show Ribbon will be awarded at the Judges discretion.

  7. All baked goods are to be in ZIP LOCK BAGS.

  8. NO mixes are to be used.

  9. All canned goods are to be properly sealed with the screw bands left on the jars. All canned items must have a card attached with the following information.

    Jars may be opened for judging.

  10. 10. NO PANS. Cakes are to be baked in an 8x8 pan and placed upon cardboard. (Unless a different size is warranted, angel food etc.) NO 9x13 Cakes. Yeast Breads are to be baked in 9 Ό x 5 ½ “ pans. YEAST BREADS IN 7 3/8 X 3 5/8” PANS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED. (Bread Machines)

  11. All entries need to be on HEAVY paper plates or heavy cardboard if needed. For cakes, cardboard is not to exceed 1” larger than the item.

  12. Classes 1-19 are for persons 15 years and older.

  13. A card with the list of ingredients MUST be attached to ALL items. Entries not having this card WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

  14. No frostings, glazes, or drizzles will be allowed on ANY baked goods except on the ugly cake and decorated cake/cupcake entries.

  15. Entries using uncooked eggs or cream cheese will NOT be accepted. Cream Cheese mints will be accepted if there is at least 1-cup sugar to 8oz cream cheese.

  16. Due to a lack of entries the Developmentally Disabled Class has been suspended. If you, or someone you know would like to enter this class, please contact the Fair Office.

  17. Younger exhibitor classes 21, 22, 23, & 24 will be judged first.

  18. Entries to be released Thursday, July 28, 2005, 9:00 to 10:00 am. Premium money will be with office personnel in Exhibit Hall. Absolutely NO early releases.

  3. All articles entered for premiums must NEVER have been entered in the Southern Iowa Fair before. All work must be original, no kits or molds. Pictures must have been taken in the past 5 years.

  4. Exhibitors are limited to 1 entry in each category, such as Class 2 a, Class 2 b, etc. Similar pictures cannot be entered in a Class and in Class: “Other than mentioned. The Judge has the right to disqualify one.

  5. No work will be accepted unless professionally prepared by the exhibitor for display.

  6. Watercolors and prints must be framed (under glass is possible). Oil and acrylics must be framed with wires for proper hanging. No glued on hangers will be accepted. No string with tape fasteners.

  7. If a picture not equipped with a hanging wire, it will not be judged.

  8. Photographs that are not framed do not require a hanger of any kind, but must be mounted on Poster Board or matted. (they will be hung with binder clips) If they are framed they must have a hanging wire.

  9. The name and address of the exhibitor and title of the work must be firmly affixed on the back of each exhibit.

  10. All paintings or exhibits must be hand painted. Work must have been done entirely by the exhibitor.

  11. Any professional exhibitor must exhibit in the professional class only.

  12. All work will be judged on originality of subject, quality and handling the materials used, graphic appeal, and overall pictorial representation.

  13. We will not be responsible in case of breakage.

  14. No talking to the Judge is allowed during Judging.

RULES

  1. No entries accepted in the Fair Office. No early entry necessary. Entries will be accepted in
    the Exhibit Hall on Saturday, July 23, 8:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. ALL entries close at 11:30,
    and must be ready to be judged by noon. Judging begins promptly at 12:30.

  2. Exhibitors are limited to one entry in each entry number. Example: #29 Daisy, you may enter
    one in A, one in B, and one in C.

  3. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR OWN ENTRY LIST FILLED OUT. One can be obtained from
    the Fair Office.

  4. All specimens must have been grown by the exhibitor. If positive proof the exhibitor is at fault,
    ALL of their premium money from each department will be withheld.

  5. Floriculture Exhibits will exhibit in clear glass container, sized for specimen in class exhibited. Please add rocks or marbles for weight, so they will not blow over. Horticulture Exhibits must be on paper plate.

  6. The decision of the judge is final.

  7. Each entry must be checked by an authorized person before judging. There is always someone to
    help you if have questions.

  8. Premiums designated by ribbons. A Best of Show ribbon will be awarded at the discretion of the
    Judge.

  9. If there is any spoilage, the Superintendent has the right to dispose of the exhibit.

  10. The entry will be disqualified if not entered in the correct entry number, once judging begins.

  11. Please name specimens if possible.

  12. Artistic Division Rules will be listed in Class 6.

  13. Classes #1 thru #8 and Class #12 are for persons 19 years and older.

  14. Classes # 9 thru #11 are for youth 5 to 18 years old.

  15. Exhibits will be released Thursday, July 28 from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Premium Money will
    be with the Office Personnel in the Exhibit Hall. Absolutely NO early releases. Premiums
    will not be mailed out. You must tell the Superintendent if you are picking items up for someone
    else.

  16. Premiums: First Place - $2.00 Second - $1.50 (for all Classes except Class #5 and Class #6).
    Class #5 & #6 Premium: First Place $5.00 Second Place $2.50

The following are not permitted in flower shows: noxious weeds, natural bird’s nests, stuffed birds, butterflies, or other insects, fish, birds, or animals, or cut fruit or vegetables.  Also, wild bird feathers (except those for which there is a hunting season in Iowa) are not permitted.

  3. No more than one entry per entry number (example: Class 1, you may have one entry in #1, #2,
    #3, etc.) Identical items cannot be entered in two different classes.

  4. All entries must be of a genealogical nature. Each entry should be accompanied with
    information showing its family connection to the exhibitor, and how it has helped the
    exhibitor understand and appreciate his/her family history.

  5. Both the ITEM and the DESCRIPTION will be considered when judging.

  6. Superintendents reserve the right to refuse or reclassify any exhibit.

  7. Diligence will be used to insure the safety of articles after their arrival and placement, but in no
    case will the management be responsible for any loss or damage that may occur.

  8. Each class is open to any age.

  9. NO entry may have been previously exhibited at the Southern Iowa Fair.

  10. Copies of photos, documents or research material are accepted.

  11. All framed items and all posters should be very sturdy, framed or matted ready for hanging
    with a wire hanger attached. The exhibit will be refused if it is not equipped with a very strong
    hanger. We will not be responsible for breakage.
